“The price and the space here are the best!”
Michelle bought her end-of-group row home in the Gray Manor neighborhood at the end of June 2017, and she has not stopped smiling yet! At age 50, she is a first-time buyer, and life is good. For the past five years, she rented a 1-bedroom apartment in Glen Burnie for more money than she now pays for her 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom row home. It’s semi-renovated, and she loves the sliding doors that lead to a large deck and fenced backyard, the 2-vehicle parking pad in back, her own laundry facilities – things that renters just don’t have.
She learned about Dundalk from the man in her life – he’s from the community – and he knew that this neighborhood would be safe, quiet and one where neighbors watch out for neighbors. He helped her adopt Echo, a rescue pit bull/Dalmation mix, who is also totally thrilled to be part of the community and has made friends with Fiona, the shepherd mix rescue dog next door. She plans new gardens in the yard and the Dundalk 4th of July fireworks to enjoy from the front porch.
Michelle used our $5K DRC Home Buyer Grants program to put toward her down payment, and her lender at George Mason was frankly shocked at how smoothly our grant process is. In fact, Michelle went from mortgage approval to settlement table in just 34 days!
Michelle has been working at the Anne Arundel Jail for 10 years in booking, the 3 – 11 pm shift, and she she’s trying to make time to enjoy what Dundalk has to offer. She does love the Boulevard Diner for a casual meal out, and Weis Market for groceries. Most of all, she loves to spend her time making her new row home truly hers, complete with family photos and lots of decorating touches that make it clear she’s here to stay.
